Vernon is the only venue in BC where competitors can compete for the chance of carving at the National Championships. The 53rd Annual Vernon Winter Carnival hosted the BC Championship Snow Sculpture Competition at the Silver Star Mountain Resort on February 1-3. The very intricate and beautiful snow sculpture entitled “The First Sign of Spring”, won 1st Place honors. The sculptors were Aaron Grant, Janelle Parchomchuck and Kirk Safford from Nanaimo/Penticton. 2nd place went to Brian Rouble, Mahina Rose and Michael Larner from Monte Lake, Spallumcheen and Salmon Arm. The 3rd place snow sculpture and chosen by visitors to Silver Star as the “People’s Choice Award”, was crafted by Katie Dyck, Aimee Philibert, and Alexis Mainland from Nelson. The winning team will be represent BC in the Canadian Snow Sculpture Championships in Quebec City in 2014. The awards were designed by Blair Peden from AWARDS AND TROPHIES HEADQUARTERS in Vernon BC.
